Arthur Lee "Doc" Hearne

Arthur Lee ???Doc??? Hearne, 96, of Pittsboro, died Thursday, October 23, 2014. Born April 17, 1918, to Herbert and Lillian Griffineearne, he was a life-long resident of Pittsboro and a member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church. He was well known for his kineess and patience and was a well-liked and respected member of the community. Although he had several occupations, including carpenter and coal and ice deliveryman, his favorite job was working at Victory Village, the housing complex for members of the military at UNC-Chapel Hill. Following his retirement from UNC-Chapel Hill, he enjoyed woodworking; watching wrestling, old Western movies, and baseball on TV; and spending time with his family and friends. He was preceded ineeath by his wife, Blanee Copeland Hearne, whom he married in 1937; a daughter, Donna Teague; his brother Nathaniel Hearne, and his sister Marie Wolfe. He is survived by his son Marlineearne and wife Faye of Garner; his daughter Sharon Griffin and husband J.R. of Pittsboro; sisters Louise Womble and Kathleen Braxton of Pittsboro; grandchildren Michelle (Sarah), Melanie (Bill), Lisa (Jim), Lori (Blair), Ashley, and Johnee (Lisa); great grandchildren Tyler, Katie, Travis, and Basia; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held Sunday, October 26, 2014, at 3:30 p.m. at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church, 1785 Mt. Gilead Baptist Church Road, Pittsboro, with visitation at the church at 2:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
