Donald H. Boland, 86, died Sept. 16, 2018, with family and friends at his bedside. Don was borneec. 4, 1931, to Harry & Marge Boland in Cincinnati, Ohio. Whenee was young, they moved to the Panama Canal Zone. He forever after loved all things Panamanian including the sunshine, white sand beaches, food, and music. After completing the CZ Jr. College, he went to Stillwater, OK, aneenrolled in Okla State Univ, where he earned a BS in Accounting and met his forever sweetheart, Geneva Vaughan. After graduation and marriage, they traveled to the Canal Zone to live & work. While there, they had two daughters, Debbie, who died as an infant, and Jean. In 1963, they moved to Washington, DC. Don???s entire career was spent in US federal service: The Panama Canal Company, & the Interstate Commerce Commission & Federal Energy Commission in Washington, DC. While in MD, they had another daughter, Cathy. After Doneetired, they lived in SC for 23 years and then moved to Durham, NC, to be near their grandchildren. Don is predeceased by his brother Earl of Sumter, SC, brother-in-law Raymond Vaughan of Pearland, TX, two sisters-in-law, Mildred Sherman of Safford, AZ, and Jo Nell Vaughan of Silsbee, TX. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Geneva; two daughters and sons-in-law: Jean (Fred) Ehler of St. Matthews, SC, and Catherine (Michael) of Durham, NC; two grandchildren: Rachel (16) and Alex (13) Emrick of Durham, many nieces and nephews, grandnieces and graneephews, from OK, TX, & AZ, and friends from MD, SC, & NC. Special thanks to Beechwood (Spring Valley Living) Asst. Living for the loving care they provided & to the caregivers who went above & beyoneexpectations in caring for him, including Kanisha and her son Kyler, Jenee, Todd, Hiwot, Dalroyce, Caulita, Shemeeka, & others. Special thanks also to Transitions Hospice Care for their presence & care that made those difficult days easier for Don & his family, especially Jesse, Joivonni, Brandon, Micah, & Carl. Don???s memorial service will be on Sat., Sept. 29 at 11am followed by a reception at EPWORTH UneeD METHODIST CHURCH, 3002 Hope Valley Rd., Durham, 27707. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Final dispensation of the ashes will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Hugo, OK, at a later date. The family respectfully requests in lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Don???s memory may make donations to The Alzheimer's Association National Headquarters, 225 N. Michigan Ave, Chicago, or to Epworth Uneed Methodist Church.
