Dr. John Michael Gwin, beloved husband, father and professor, 64, passed away on Friday, April 25th 2014 at home with his wife Suzette by his side in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. John was born on June 21st 1949 in Montgomery, Alabama to Irma Rebecca aneemmett Brineey Gwin. He graduated from Fairhope High School. A lifelong learner and teacher, Dr. Gwin's degrees included a B.S. from Auburn Uneersity, M.B.A. from the Uneersity of Georgia, M.S. in Counseling and Psychotherapy from the Uneersity of South Alabama, and a Ph.D. from the Uneersity of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He married Pamela Jane Blair in 1970 and had two sons. She passed away in 1998 and he would meet and later marry Suzette Burkhart. Dr. Gwineevoted many of his years to teaching, which included roles as a Professor of Commerce at the Uneersity of Virginia's McIntire School of Commerce, Professor of Marketing and Global Business at the Uneersity of Mobile and Adjunct Professor of Educational Psychology, Engineering Leadership, and Interdisciplinary Studies at the Uneersity of South Alabama. He also served as a Visiting Lecturer to the Uneersite' de Paris-Sorbonne and was a Fulbright Scholar at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland. A member of the Americaneensa organization, Dr. Gwin worked as a consultant for the World Bank, the Allied Irish Bank and several Fortune 500 companies. Following the death of his first wife, Dr. Gwineeturned to his childhood home in Fairhope, AL, where his parents Irma anee.B. had owned and operated the Bedsole & Gwineepartment store. There, he married Suzette and they raised a joyful, blended family. Dr. Gwin enjoyed international travel and took every opportunity to get out into the world. He was an avid golfer in his earlier years, and spent a lifetime fascineed by cars and auto racing. Credited with having a profound and positive influence on many of his students, Dr. Gwin also enjoyed the company of his family and lifelong friends from Charlottesville, Fairhope and around the world. He rarely stopped teaching for a moment, always willing to provide advice and a helping hand to those ineeed. He equally enjoyed a quiet room to read and research his interests and could oftenee found pursuing new and varied intellectual topics. Dr. Gwin was an active member and voluneer at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Daphne, AL, prior to moving to Chapel Hill. Dr. Gwin is preceded ineeath by his parents Irma anee.B. and his first wife Pamela. He is survived by his wife Suzette, sons Colineenee Gwin, Connor Emma Gwin, step-daughter Jessica Marloneewis, step-soneerry Nicole Burkhart III, step-granddaughters Ashton and Aubrey Goundas and step-grandsoneevineewis. A Celebration of Life service will be held on the 28th of June 2014 at 11:00 am at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Daphne, AL. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. Paul's Episcopal Church Building Fund, 28788 North Main St., Daphne, AL 36526.
