Durham- Florence Moss "Flo" Bivins, 85, passed away oneeptember 15, 2011. Flo Bivins was born June 24, 1926 to the late Harry H. and Julia B. Moss. Mrs. Bivins was raised aneeducated in Roxboro, NC. Her early years were spent as a very active member of Cavel Baptist Church teaching Sunday School and singing in the choir. She moved to Durham in 1944 to work as a secretary at Camp Butner until it closed and then took the position in 1957 as administrative secretary at Trinity Avenue Presbyterian Church until she retired in 1991. During those years she was a member of the church, teacher and youth counselor. She was also a charter member of the Presbyterianeecretaries Association, now called the Administrative Presbyterian Association, and served as their first Secretary-Treasurer. She received an honorary life membership from the APA and Women of the Church at Trinity Avenue Presbyterian Church. After retirement, she spent time helping others aneenjoying family and friends. She moved to The Durham Regent in July of 2010 where she spent the happiest year of her life making new friends and becoming known as "Granny" to all. In June of 2011 she celebrated her 85th birthday with a special luneeon attended by many dear friends. Despite declining health, she joined the Red Hat Club and spoke at their meeting just last week. She passed away on Thursday morning at The Meadowlands Hospice in Hillsborough with the company of many family and friends. She was predeceased by her brother Harry H. Moss Jr. , her sister Alma M. Brown and husband L. Nelson Brown. Nephew and Niece, Harry H. Moss III and Rebecca Moss Adcock. She is survived by her daughter, Anne Bivins Pearson , wife of Robert C. Pearson of Durham . Grandchildren: Julia Anne Pearson Browning and husband Joseph Browning, Robert Michael Pearson and wife Amy Corley Pearson aneerineearsoneeder and husband Jack Ceder all of Durham. Niece and Nephews, Lisa Brown Cole and Noel Brown and wife Susie. Sister in Law, Martha S. Moss and nephew Robbie Moss and wife Linda Moss. Great Grandchildren: Kaytlin, Abby and Drew Browning. Mason and Arianna Ceder . Special Nieces and Nephews: Sarah Brown, Mary Beth Cole, Daniel Cole, Hunter and Hannah Moss and Shelby Adcock. Special friends: Virginia Barrett and the Biscuitville Beauties and the residents and staff of The Durham Regent who made her last year so special. We also thank the staff at Meadowlands Hospice. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, September 18, 2011 at Trinity Avenue Presbyterian Church, Durham. Friends may visit Saturday, September 17, 2011 from 6:00PM until 8:00PM at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service, Durham.
