Mrs. Hazel Ellis Bland, 82, of Hillsboro Street, Pittsboro, died February 14, 2012 ineer home. A native of Chatham County, Mrs. Bland was born May 25, 1929 to Cecil and Josephine Hackney Ellis. Mrs. Bland was a graduate of Pittsboro High School; she operated a beauty salon from her home for a number of years. She was a member of Pittsboro Uneed Methodist Church. Hazel and her husband of 49 years, Clyde Bland, Jr., loved to travel and for years serves as hostess and host for groups with Holiday Tours. Hazel was active in the Diabetic Support Group at the Council on Aging. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Sally and Sion Carr of Franklin, VA; son-in-law, Pete M. Chason of Myrtle Beach, SC; granddaughter, Carrie Chason; brother and sister-in-law, Charles Ray and Irma Ellis of Pittsboro; Hurdaleneellis of Pittsboro; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bland was preceded ineeath by her husband and a daughter, Peggy Chason. The service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Hazel Bland will be conducted at 11 o'clock Friday morning, February 17, 2012 from the graveside at Pittsboro Uneed Methodist Church Cemetery. Presiding will be the Reverend Ben Alexander and the Reverend Ray Gooch. Friends may visit with the family after the service in the Jeremiah's Retreat building, next to the cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Diabetes Association, 2418 Blue Ridge Rd Suite 206, Raleigh, NC 27607, or to the charity of the donor's choice.
