Hazel Sherman Montague

Hazel Sherman Montague, 85, of Durham, NC and formerly of Oxford, NC died Tuesday, July 24, 2018.?? She was born in Granville County oneecember 12, 1932, daughter of the late Lottie Denny Sherman and the late Gattis Luther Sherman. Hazel was a 1951 graduate of Berea High School and a 1955 graduate of Elon College.?? She went on to become a teacher and taught in the second, third, and forth grades.?? She was a teacher for thirty years with schools in Oxford, Greensboro, and Wilmington. Oneecember 30, 1964 she married an auditor for the US Government by the nee of Joseph Montague.?? She and Joe remained married for a wonderful 39 years before Joe???s death in 2003.?? Hazel was a devoted member of Trinity Uneed Methodist Church in Granville County. Hazel is survived by her beloved son, James Byron Montague and his wife, Lisa Kelsey; and her two adorable grandchildren, Collin and Taylor; sister, Candace S. Burnette and her husband Durwood of Oxford, and their children, Garland Burnette and Neil Burnette; and brother, Gattis Millard Sherman and his wife Foy of Suffolk, VA, and their children, Phillip Sherman and Anthony Sherman (Deceased). Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at 2:00 pm from the chapel at Gentry-neell & Vaughan Funeral Home, 503 College St., Oxford, NC.?? Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.?? The family will receive guests from 1:00 pm ??? 2:00 pm, prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Parkinson???s Foundation, 200 SE 1st street, Suite 800, Miami, FL 33131.??
