OXFORD: James David Brooks, age 65, died Friday, February 06, 2015 at his home not far from where he was born in Granville County. He was the son of the late Bennie Watkins Brooks and Evelyn Satterwhite Brooks. David was a faithful member of Hester Baptist Church, where he was a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and a member of the choir. David came home after graduating from N.C. State University to farm. He then moved on to Real Estate Appraising. During this time he served on many boards. He was a former Granville County Commissioners , Trustee for VGCC, was appointed to the North Carolina Appraisal Board. David was a member of Oxford Masonic Lodge 122 A.F. -A.M. and Granville County Shrine Club and Amran Temple. David was currently serving as a State Board member of North Carolina Farm Bureau Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on Monday, February 9, 2015 at Hester Baptist Church by Reverend Alex Gallimore burial will follow at the cemetery. Family will receive friends from 1:00 -2:00 pm prior to the service in the church fellowship hall. He leaves behind his wife of 43 years, Melinda Currin Brooks; a daughter, Caroline Higgs and her husband, Chad, grandchildren Andrew and Cole Higgs; a son, Dave Brooks and his wife Chasity; a sister, Becky Faulkner and husband Gray and a brother, Bobby Brooks and wife Vicki both of Henderson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hester Baptist Church, PO Box 964, Oxford, NC 27565. The Brooks family is being assisted by Gentry-Newell - Vaughan Funeral Home.
