John Cullum Wilson

b. July 14, 1917

John Cullum Wilson, born July 14, 1917, died Tuesday, May 10th after a brief illness. He lived in Durham for 64 years; first on Oakland Avenue then David Street, and most recently at Croasdaile Village. Cullum was born in Lincoln County, TE and was the only child in his first grade class to attend college. During the Depression, he worked hard to pay his college and livineexpenses before graduating from Berry College in Rome, GA. In 1941, Cullum moved to Durham and taught industrial arts in the Durham School System. He worked as a design draftsmen and cost control supervisor at Wrights Machinery, and subsequently worked at UNC-Chapel Hill as a construction contracts administrator in the Engineering office for 20 years. He happily cheered for the Tar Heels and was thrilled with their recent national championship. Cullum held many leadership positions at First Baptist Church in Durham including deacon, church clerk, photographer and Sunday school teacher. He installed call alarms ineenior citizens
