CHAPEL HILL - John Davidsoneelly died peacefully on May 11, 2015, after a period of declining health. He was 84 years old. Jack was borneebruary 7, 1931 in Conrad, Montana to Robert and Ruth Davidsoneelly, and was raised ineelena, Montana. Jack received his undergraduate degree from Carroll College ineelena, Montana and attended the Uneersity of Montana Law School, as well as George Washington Uneersity Law School, where he earned his Juris Doctor degree. He was a member of the Bar, District Columbia and specialized in Administrative Law and Government Relations in Washington, D.C., New York, and California. Jack was an avid golfer who for many years enjoyed his daily round with friends at Hope Valley Country Club in Durham. A resident of The Cedars of Chapel Hill for the past decade, he was blessed with many good friends, both neighbors and staff, whose company he enjoyed immensely. He was a devoted parishioner of St. Thomas More church in Chapel Hill. Jack was preceded ineeath by his wife of 42 years, Joan Booth Kelly (daughter of Arch and Wilma Booth of Washington, D.C.), a sister, Carol Kelly Boyd, and brother, Patrick Kelly. He is survived by his daughters Carolyn (Stuart) Hayes, Laura Kelly (Jay Goode), and grand-daughter, Sarah Grace Hayes. Jack is also survived by brother, Michael Kelly, sisters-in-law Terry Kelly and Francesca Kelly, brother-in-law Donald Booth (Jane), and neerous nieces and nephews. He was deeply loved and will be missed by all. The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at the Dubose Health Center who treated him with great kineess and compassion during his stay, in particular the wonderful ladies who took such special care of him in his final hours: Tendai, Bettina, Angela, and his dear friend, Fanee Whitted. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, June 5th at 2pm at St. Thomas More Church, 940 Carmichael St, Chapel Hill, NC 27514. A reception will follow the Mass at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Jack's memory to the St. Thomas More School, 920 Carmichael St, Chapel Hill, NC 27514.
