Mr. John Robert Sturdivant, 91, of Aneews Store Road., Pittsboro, NC passed away February 18, 2011 at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill. John was born in Chatham County to the late William R. and Novie Eubanks Sturdivant. John was predeceased by his wife Evon Upchurch Sturdivant. John was one of 11 siblings and was predeceased by sisters, Addie Powell, Jessie Aneews, Mary Griffin and brothers, Paul, Gene, James, Edgar, and Grady Sturdivant. He is survived by his daughter, Kaye Martinez; son, Douglas Sturdivant; step-daughters, Joanne Hackney Sturdivant, Brenda Hodges; step-son, Wayne Bowden; 6 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; sister, Ruth Penninger; brother, Larry Sturdivant; neerous nieces and nephews. John was employed by Farmers Dairy in Chapel Hill which became Long Meadow Farms, and theneecame Flavor Rich in 1978 where he retired as credit maneer. John later worked several years for Brad and Gray Moody. Johneerved his country with pride during World War II with the Army Air Corp stationed in England; he obtained the rank of Sergeant. Pallbearers will be Rusty Nipper, Brad Moody, Kent Penninger, Kenneth Sturdivant, Ronee Griffin and Ricky Sturdivant. Honorary pallbearers will be former employees of the dairy. The funeral service will be held at 2 pm Monday at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home in Pittsboro with Ernie Keck, pastor of Damascus Coneegational Christian Church presiding. Interment will follow in Mt. Pleasant UMC Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 12:45 1:45 pm Monday at the funeral home and at other times at 715 Hatch Road, Chapel Hill. Memorials may be sent to either St.Jude Children's Research Hospital, or to the charity of one's choice. Online condolences to www.hallwynne.com, Select "Obituaries".
