Lessie Barbour Brothers

Lessie Barbour Brothers passed away from complications of Alzheimers on October 13 at Brookdale Chapel Hill. Born in Smithfield, NC to Callie Moore Barbour and John David Barbour, Lessie was the youngest of three. She is predeceased by her two brothers Curtis Barbour and John David Barbour Jr. Lessie was also predeceased by Joseph Daniel (JD) Brothers, her loving husband of 67 years. Lessie was very active in both her church family and community. Her love of music was shared through church choir, and dancing the jitterbug. She was employed for many years by Erwin Mills, which later became Burlington Industries, where she was one of the first female maneers in the company???s history. As a member of the Exchangette Club and the Durham Woman???s Club she served as an officer of both and won state and local awards for her service. Lessie also voluneered at the Red Cross, Duke Hospital and Hillcrest sharing her genee spirit with others. Lessie is survived by a daughter, Mona Broadway and husband, Henry of Durham, and a son, Joe Brothers and wife, Cindy of Greenville, SC. She also leaves behind three grandchildren, Lisa Broadway Morton (Peter), Kristen Broadway Pleasants (Will) and David Brothers (Matt). Great grandchildren Grace and Matthew Morton and Laney and Alex Pleasants also brought her great joy. The family will visit beginning at 2 pm October 17th at Hall Wynne Funeral Chapel, with the funeral service beginning at 3PM. Internment immediately follows at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens. Flowers are welcome, contributions to the Exchange Club Industries of Durham, Alzheimer???s Association or a charity of your choice. The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers at Brookdale Chapel Hill and Amedisys and Heartland Hospice during the last several months for their loving acts of kineess and support.
