Lucious C. Adcock

September 30, 1927 — January 20, 2022

Mr. Lucious Culvern “L.C.” Adcock, 94, died peacefully in his home on January 20, 2022. He was born in the Berea Community on September 30, 1927, the only child of Lillian Fuller and Clyde Culvern Adcock. After graduating from Berea School he enlisted in the US Navy where he served as a medic. He was a graduate of Campbell Junior College and Elon College, receiving his masters from UNC Chapel Hill.

L. C. Adcock’s lifetime was a model of dedication to the people of Granville County. He began his teaching career at Oak Hill School instructing in history and chemistry, as well as coaching baseball and basketball. During his 35 continuous years in education he held the positions of teacher, principal, assistant superintendent and, from 1967 until his retirement in June of 1985, Superintendent of Granville County Schools.

During his years as a Granville County Commissioner, he served as interim County Manager, Board Chairman, and liaison to the school board. He managed multiple public projects while holding membership on the Vance-Granville District Health Department Board, Oxford-Granville Disabilities Advisory Committee, Oxford Economic Development Commission Board, and the Hospital Finance and Planning Group. He was a long-time member of the Granville Health System Board of Trustees and as chairman in 2006, began the process of transitioning the organization from a managed medical center to an independent community health system.

From his service as a member of Delrayno Baptist Church and the Oxford Lions Club to his leadership on multiple commissions and boards, Mr. Adcock was admired, respected and appreciated by the people of Granville County.

He is survived by his daughter, Lillian Marie Adcock; son, Clyde Wesley Adcock; lots of cousins, nieces and nephews, his caretaker for 13 years, Sandra Cooper, and his companion (cat), the General.

He was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Carol Knott Adcock.
