Mr. Max Norwood, 92, of Lamont Norwood Rd, Pittsboro, died February 2, 2012 at the Hock Family Pavilion of Duke Hospice in Durham. Born neember 28, 1919 in Chatham County, Mr. Norwood was a son of James Alexander Norwood and Myrtle Kate Harris Norwood. He was a graduate of Bynum School, and retired from Liggett and Meyers after over 30 years of service. An avid Carolina fan, Mr. Norwood loved outdoors, especially gardening. He enjoyed watching and participating in sports, and played golf well into his 80's. Survivors include his wife, Helen Mae Boone Norwood; daughters, Ruth Meeks of Sanford and Maxine Norwood of Durham; 2 granddaughters, Helen Clark and Janet Walker Barry; 1 grandson, Jonathaneeeks Erin; 2 great-grandsons, Jeffrey and Will Walker; and a brother, Victor Eugene "Pete" Norwood of Burlington. He was preceded ineeath by his parents; a daughter, Barbara N. Clark; 2 brothers and 2 sisters. The funeral service for Mr. Max Norwood will be held at 1 o'clock Monday afternoon, February 6, 2012 at Mt. Pleasant Uneed Methodist Church, with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The Rev. Jim Jones and the Rev. Al Hocutt will preside. Friends may visit with the family from 5:00 7:00 pm Sunday at Hall Wynne Funeral Home in Pittsboro.
