Melissa Joyce Stout

CHAPEL HILL, NC-Melissa Joyce Stout passed away peacefully on May 17, 2014, following her diagnosis of ALS in July 2013, having had care at home from family and friends with a great deal of assistance from Home Ineead and Duke Hospice. Melissa was born March 28, 1949, in Springfield, Illinois, the daughter of Nancy Jane Halstead Stout and John Sprague Stout. She grew up in Chatham, Illinois, then graduated from the Uneersity of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, in French aneenglish with high honors. Though Melissa accomplished a great deal ineer career, she would tell you that her greatest achievement in life rests with her absolutely wonderful children and grandchildren. Melissa was pre-deceased by her parents and her older sister, Joan Edith Stout Johnson-Blackwell. She is survived by her sisters, Phyllis Stout of Chapel Hill, NC; Janeer Stout Day of Springfield, IL; her son, John L. Scheitler, M.D. wife Marlo; her daughter, Jenneer M. Waters husband Lee; and her granddaughters Jasmine and Jordyn Scheitler and Hollis Jane Waters. Melissa also leaves behind nieces and nephews, Jo Johnson of Springfield, IL; Aneewe Johnson wife Stephanie of Canton, IL; Lindsay Kinkade of Phoenix, AZ; Amanda Kinkade Obusan husband Dan of Seattle, WA; Phyllis Day Kastle husband Alan of Westchester, IL; Joshua Day of Springfield, IL; more cousins thanee can count and dear friends around the world from her vast travels and the beautiful way she reached out in every community she touched. For the past 17 years, Melissa has maneed business, technology, and consulting projects for Clarkston Consulting with clients across the USA and in Switzerland, Scotland, France, Puerto Rico and Canada. Previously she was maneer of Corporate Communications and Training for Crowneentral Petroleum. She was a member of The Church of the Holy Family serving on the music team and the fellowship commission, teaching Sunday school and helping with other ministries as needed. She was also a member of the Chapel Hill Optimist Club and Foundation, serving frequently in community service events such as Ronald McDonald House meals and fundraising for Childhood Cancer. Having been inducted into Iota Chapter of Delta Gamma at the Uneersity of Illinois, she recently served as an alumnae on the House Corporation Board for the Delta Gamma chapter, Eta Kappa, at NC State Uneersity in Raleigh, NC. The funeral service for Melissa will be held on July 12, 2014, at The Church of the Holy Family, 200 Hayes Road, Chapel Hill, NC at 11 a.m. followed by internment of her ashes in the Holy Family garden columbarium. A marker will be placed in the Philemon Stout family cemetery in Chatham, Illinois.
