Nancy ???Lois??? Ferrell Daves, 98, passed away Monday, February 26, 2018. ??Mrs. Daves was born in Duplin County, the daughter of the late William Thomas Ferrell, Sr. and Julia Miller Ferrell. ??She was preceded ineeath by her husband, Major William Thomas Daves; brother, William Thomas Ferrell, Jr.; sister, Doris Ferrell Mathes; and son-in-law James Thomas Riley, Sr. [Jimmy]. She was a 1938 graduate of Durham High School. ??She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church and a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class. She was active in the Womens Missionary Union where she served as secretary.?? Mrs. Daves worked in the Guidance Office of Durham High School until her retirement in 1981. ??She was a member of the DAR, General Davey Chapter and served as past Chaplin.?? Ineer later years she was involved ineenior citizen activities at First Baptist. Mrs. Daves is survived by her children, Nancy Daves Riley and Carol Daves Beck [David]; grandchildren, Paula Anne Riley, James Thomas Riley, Jr., Allisoneeck Chetwood [Eric], Meredith Beck Nimocks [Rankin], and Jonathaneeck [Laura]; and five great-grandchildren, Noah and James Chetwood; Leighton and Charlotte Nimocks; aneellie Beck. A funeral service will be offered from the Chapel of Hall Wynne Funeral Service at 2:00 PM Thursday, March 1, 2018 with Dr. Paul Watson officiating.?? The family will receive friends Wednesday, February 28th from 6:00-8:00pm at Hall Wynne Funeral Service, Durham. Flowers are acceptable, or contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
