Paul Judson Shotwell

June 18, 1928 — February 18, 2015

Bullock: Paul Judson Shotwell June 18, 1928 to February 18, 2015 Many travelers heard the stories about the pictures of his children and grandchildren that hung behind the counter. They may only see them on their trek to the lake, but whether it was daily or yearly, Paul took the time to share his story and theirs. Opened in 1965, Shotwell's Store was a part of the Bullock community until 2009. Whether you were stopping for gas, a drink or the latest news, there were few times you would not find Paul in the store. Paul served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He had very strong beliefs on his politics and shared these in his last years through letters. He was a life-long member of Stovall Baptist Church. Paul also worked for the Hartford Insurance Company as a crop insurance adjuster for many years; this coincided with his love for road trips. He was a member of the Henry F. Granger Lodge and the Shrine Club. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 pm on Sunday, February 22, 2015 at Stovall Methodist Church by Reverend John Yount. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1:30 3:00 pm prior to the service at the church. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, Paul is survived by his wife of 62 years, Flora Edward Riggan Shotwell; daughters, Martha Grace Shotwell Denny and Marian Judson Shotwell Staffel (Greg); seven grandchildren, Heather Elizabeth Denny, Kelly Denny Claiborne (Chris), Gerald "Jeb Blalock Denny, II (Kate), Scott Shotwell Denny, Paul Jacob Denny, Marian "Ali Alexandra Denny and Jon Gregory Staffel, Jr.; three great-grandchildren, Cecily Rebecca Claiborne, Judson Harper Claiborne and Charles Augustus Denny. He was pre-deceased by his mother and father Virginia Grace Hicks Shotwell and Henry Ray Shotwell; sisters, Edwina Thatcher Shotwell, Willie Mae Shotwell Cutts, Ruby Rae Shotwell Hutson, Sybil Shotwell Newton and brother, Jasper Holt Shotwell The Shotwell family is being assisted by Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home in Oxford.
