OXFORD: Robert "Bobby" Thomas Lumpkin, died February 4, 2011 at his home. He was a native of Granville Co. and was the son of the late Willie "Billy" T. Lumpkin aneethel Owen Lumpkin. He was a lifetime member of Salem Uneed Methodist Church for 68 years, where he served in almost every office at the church, the Choir and taught Sunday School. Bobby was and avid basketball and baseball player in high school, played semi-pro baseball and went to ECU as a pitcher until he injured his shoulder. Bobby served in the National Guard for 6 years, was a real estate broker since 1974, played bluegrass in a band for 10 years, "The Whipoorwill Ridge". He served for over 20 years in the Granville County Chamber of Commerce, as officer, Director, and Chairman, life membership in Oxford Jaycees, Jaycee of the year, 71-72 and 73-74, President 1974-75 and received the Distinguished Service Award, helped raise money for the Burneenter in Chapel Hill and helped build the church at Butner-Murdoch. Funeral services will be conducted Monday February 7, 2011 at 2:00 PM in the salem Uneed Methodist Church by Rev. Alaneelton and Rev. Pat Hawkins. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Surviving is his wife, Marjorie Cash Lumpkin; daughters, Amy Schumann Bob of Durham and Cindy Peedeneennis of Oxford; brother James "Jimmy" S. Lumpkin of Oxford; grandchildren twins, Thomas and Will Schumann and Sadie Schumann, Zach and Meganeeeden. The family will receive friends Monday from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM prior to the services in the fellowship hall.
