ROBERT F. ENSSLIN, JR, MAJOR GENERAL, USARMY RET DIED ON MARCH 15, 2014 IN CHAPEL HILL, NC. HE WAS BORN OneeBRUARY 22, 1928 IN JACKSONVILLE, FL TO PAULINE HARPER ENSSLIN AND ROBERT F. ENSSLIN. HE GRADUATED FROM WILSON HIGH SCHOOL IN WASH, DC. AND IN 1950 FROM UNC-CH, WHERE HE BELONGED TO KAPPA SIGMA. HIS MILITARY CAREER BEGAN IN 1951, COMPLETING OCSARTILLERY, THEneeRVING IN THE 48TH FA BN IN KOREA AS FORWARD OBSERVER, THEN BATTERY COMMANDER. HIS CIVILIAN CAREER IN THE ADVERTISING INDUSTRY BEGAN IN TAMPA, FL WHERE HE EVENTUALLY FOUNDED ENSSLIN ADVERTISING INC, LATER ENSSLIN AND HALL. SINCE 1956 HE WAS ACTIVE IN THE FLORIDA NATIONAL GUARD AS A CITIZEN-SOLDIER. HE WAS PRESIDENT OF MANY CIVIC ASSOCIATIONS, A TRUSTEE OF THE UNIV. OF TAMPA, AND A BOARD MEMBER OF THE AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF ADVERTISING AGEneeS. STEADILY ADVANCING IN THE FLA NG, IN THE 116TH FA BN, THE 227TH FA GROUP, AND BEING PROMOTED TO BRIGADIER GENERAL IN 1980, HE WAS APPOINTED ADJUTANT GENERAL OF FLORIDA IN 1982. MG ENSSLIneeCAME A FULL-TIME SOLDIER, SERVING TEneeARS BASED IN ST. AUGUSTINE, FL. AT MANDATORY RETIREMENT AGE OF 64 HE BECAME PRESIDENT OF THE NATIONAL GUARD ASSOCIATION OF THE UneeD STATES NGAUS, BASED IN WASH, DC. AMONG HIS AWARDS AND DECORATIONS ARE THE ARMY DISTINGUISHED SERVICE MEDAL, THE NG BUREAU EAGLE AWARD, LEGION OF MERIT, KOREAneeRVICE MEDAL WITH 3 BATTLE STARS, REPUBLIC OF KOREA PRESIDENTIAL UNIT CITATION, FLORIDA CROSS, FLORIDA DSM WITH 2 SILVER OAK LEAF CLUSTERS. THE FLA GUARD HOneeD HIM BY NAMING THE ARMORY IN ST. AUGUSTINE FOR HIM. IN 2005, MG ENSSLIN AND HIS WIFE RETIRED TO CHAPEL HILL. HE IS SURVIVED BY HER, THE FORMER MARY FAE FINTER, AND FOUR SONS. ROBERT F, III, CLYDE FINTER, PAUL HARPER, AND JOHN BREESE, AND SIX GRANDCHILDREN. FUNERAL SERVICES AND BURIAL WITH FULL HONORS ARE PLANNED AT ARLINGTON NATIONAL CEMETERY MEMORIAL GIFTS MAY BE MADE TO THE NATIONAL MUSEUM OF THE US ARMY, ATTN CAMPAIGN HQS, P.O. BOX 96281, WASH, DC. 200090-6281, OR TO UneeRSITY PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, POBOX 509, CHAPEL HILL, NC, 27514. THE FAMILY EXPRESSES GRATITUDE FOR THE EXTRAORDINARY CARE RECEIVED BY TERRENCE HOLT, MD, TERESA SHOCKLEY, RN , AND FAY SMITH, MSN/FPN-BC, AT THE DUBOSE HEALTH CENTER.
