Rosemary Clifford Mcgee

Rosemary Clifford McGee, 81, of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, died on December 24, 2020. She was born on June 8, 1939 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Agnes (Ragsdale) and Thomas Hill Clifford, and grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Detroit, Michigan, Ridgewood, New Jersey and Atlanta, Georgia.

Rosemary graduated from the Westminster School in Atlanta, and attended the University of Georgia and the University of Michigan, where she was a member of the Pi Phi sorority.

She married John Thomas McGee in Columbia, South Carolina and they subsequently lived in Miami, Florida, Princeton, New Jersey and Chapel Hill, North Carolina. She was a dedicated community advocate and leader in the Junior League of Greater Princeton, and president of the Princeton Public Schools Parent Teacher Organization. Rosemary served two terms as an elected member of the Princeton Public Schools Board of Education. She also served as president of the Chapel Hill Service League, president of the Governor’s Forest Property Owners Association, and founding member and president of Chapel Hill PEO Chapter CN.

An avid reader, Rosemary was a longtime member of two book groups and a member of bridge and euchre clubs. She was an excellent cook and while living in Princeton, she managed a catering business, and also created arts and crafts for a boutique in New York City. She loved travelling, entertaining, gardening and spending time with her family, especially at annual gatherings in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. She and her husband were longtime members of the Chapel Hill Country Club.

She is survived by her husband, John, of 56 years; children Elizabeth McGee Weaver (David) of Silver Spring, Maryland; Katherine McGee (Mike Hoey) of Phoenixville, Pennsylvania; Martha McGee (Patrick Irvine) of Oak Park, Illinois; Thomas McGee (Stacy) of Ashburn, Virginia; and grandchildren Abby Weaver, Clifford Weaver, George Hoey, Anna Hoey, Zoë Irvine, Margaret Irvine, Cary Irvine, Ginny McGee, Owen McGee.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Donna Clifford Medders.
