Alfred Dorsey Blackwell (A.D.), 97, passed away peacefully at his home on February 2, 2026.
A.D. was a lifelong resident of Granville County and a graduate of Stovall High School. He was a member of Stovall Baptist Church and later Stovall Methodist Church.
A.D. was a farmer his entire life except for a brief time when he worked at the Tungsten Mine. He was a Farm Bureau board member for many years. His occupation was farming and he loved every minute he spent on his tractor, plowing fields, tending to cows, growing vegetables, etc. He was quite the storyteller and loved telling his family stories about growing up on the farm with his sisters and his buddies.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorsey and Tazzie Blackwell, his sisters Adelle Bentley, Jane Holden, Yvonne Weeks, Betty Pegram, and Gwen Winston and all their spouses. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Lelia Currin Blackwell and a daughter, Patricia.
He is survived by his daughters Donna Briley and husband Dick, Robin Williams, and Pam Blackwell. Grandchildren Leah Williamson, Leigh Cannon and husband Chris, Traye Briley and wife Gina, Patrick Briley and wife Meredith. Great grandchildren Taylor Briley, Kayla Godley and husband Cody, Gracie Briley, Andrew Cannon, Peyton Purnell, Emmie Briley, Ayden Purnell, Carsyn Briley, Logan Cannon, Layla Williamson, and Jake Briley. Great great grandchildren Asher and Charlie Wilson and Kollyns Godley.
Services will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at 11:00 am at Stovall Methodist Church and officiated by Rev. Cameron Currin. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am-11:00 am and we welcome all guests to pay their condolences.
