Alice M. Oakley, a beloved figure in her community and a devoted mother, passed away peacefully in her hometown of Oxford, NC, on August 3, 2025. Born on December 31, 1948, Alice was a lifelong resident of Oxford where she not only her family but created a nurturing environment for countless children through her in-home daycare. Her dedication to childcare was matched only by her unwavering love for her family, Alice's life was a testament to kindness and generosity. As a mother, she lavished her daughter, Jennifer Seeley, with love and wisdom, building a bond that would endure throughout her life. Her heart was equally filled with pride for her grandson, Nathan David Seeley, who brought her immeasurable joy. Alice's nurturing spirit extended beyond her immediate family, as she was also a cherished sister to John Murray, Jr., and an adored aunt to Wayne Murray and many other nieces and nephews. The warmth she exuded touched the lives of many, bringing comfort and strength to those around her.
Her personality shone brightly with her willingness to help others and her faithful nature. Friends and family alike will remember Alice as a loving mother and a good sister who went above and beyond to support those she cared for. She was known for her uplifting presence, bringing laughter and love into every gathering.
Alice is reunited in everlasting peace with her beloved husband, Baxter Reid Oakley, as well as her dear parents, John W. Murray, Sr. and Tazzie Lee O'Briant Murray. Though they are no longer physically present, their memories will live on in the hearts of those who loved them.
The memory of Alice M. Oakley will be honored during a visitation on August 8, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home in Oxford, NC. A graveside service will follow on August 9, 2025, at Mountain Creek Baptist Church, starting at 11:00 AM. The family welcomes flowers or donations made in her honor to her church, Mountain Creek Baptist.
