Amanda Lovette Jervis, a beloved daughter of Edd H. Lovette, Sr and Mildred Ketner Lovette, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2026, in Granville County, North Carolina. Born on March 5, 1951, in Durham County, NC, Amanda lived a life marked by love, resilience, and an unwavering devotion to family and the simple joys that surrounded her.
Amanda's journey was deeply intertwined with her love for animals and her mechanical talents. From a young age, she showed a unique skill for working on VW Bugs, often pulling engines out to rebuild them with careful hands and an expert eye. This early passion for mechanics reflected determination and resourcefulness that carried through her life.
Professionally, Amanda dedicated much of her life to the operations of car dealerships, expertly managing the dealerships’ books and contributing to their success. As her career progressed, she expanded her talents to other businesses, demonstrating a steadfast work ethic and an inspiring commitment that followed her nearly to retirement. Amanda held an associate’s degree in Bookkeeping from Montreat College in Montreat, NC, a testament to her dedication to her craft.
Her heart, however, belonged to her family and her cherished animals. Amanda’s firsthorse, NikNak, held a special place in her affections, closely followed by Charghon, pronounced "Charge-on," both emblematic of her deep connection to nature and the spirit of freedom they represented. Together with Tom, she shared an enduring love for their dogs, particularly the dachshunds affectionately known as “weiner dogs,” whose joyful presence enriched their lives immeasurably.
Amanda’s love extended beyond animals, reaching deeply into the lives of her family and close friends. Her son, Richard D. Andrews, daughter-in-law, Melissa T. Andrews, and granddaughter, Amelia Grace Andrews were the center of her love and care. She upheld a strong bond with her siblings—Jennifer Lovette Roland, Joy Lovette Adamio, Edd Lovette, Jr., and Toby Lovette Lauster—treasuring each relationship with tenderness and generosity. Amanda’s nurturing spirit was felt widely, especially among her nieces, whom she loved fiercely, often putting their needs before her own.
Her life was also a remarkable testament to strength and hope. Diagnosed with small cell lung cancer, Amanda bravely faced chemotherapy and radiation treatments, ultimately healed by what she believed was God’s grace. This victory over cancer stood as one of her proudest accomplishments, a beacon of perseverance and faith that inspired all who knew her.
Amanda was predeceased by her parents, Edd H. Lovette, Sr. and Mildred Ketner Lovette, and her husband Tom Jervis, who passed away just two weeks earlier; whose memories she carried lovingly in her heart.
A Celebration of Life for Amanda Lovette Jervis and Thomas Paul Jervis will be held on May 16, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 2700 North Roxboro Street, Durham, NC 27704.
