It is with broken hearts and profound sorrow that we share the passing of our beloved son, Caden Gene Cottrell. Born silently on July 6, 2026, in Durham, North Carolina to Dylan Scott Cottrell and Megan Matthews Cottrell, Caden became our sleeping angel before he had a chance to take his first breath. Although his time with us was heartbreakingly brief, he made an indelible mark on those who awaited his arrival with such hope and endless love.

From the moment we learned that we were expecting, dreams began to bloom for our sweet baby boy. We envisioned laughter-filled days, gentle goodnight kisses, and a lifetime of cherished milestones. Instead, we have found ourselves holding both the weight of immeasurable love and the depths of grief that such a loss brings. Caden was absolutely perfect in every way—born weighing 7 pounds, 8 ounces, more beautiful than we could have ever imagined, with his chunky cheeks, double chin, 10 chunky fingers, 10 long toes and a button nose. Even without a single cry or step, he filled our lives and hearts completely.

Though we never heard him or watched him grow, Caden will always be our son, loved every single day of his life and remembered every single day of ours. The dreams we held for him remain as precious memories—tender reminders of the hopeful anticipation and unconditional love that filled each moment as we awaited his arrival. Caden will be deeply missed by his large extended family, including but not limited to his grandparents, aunt, uncle's, cousins and so many more too numerous to name. 

As we attempt to navigate this unimaginable heartache, we ask for grace, understanding, and patience. Your support, prayers, and gentle words have meant more to us than words can say. While we may not respond right away, please know how truly grateful we are for every gesture of compassion and kindness extended to our family during this most difficult time. We ask that you keep things private and do not share any pictures.
