George Stephen Faucette, affectionately known as "Steve," passed away peacefully on March 20, 2026, in Durham County, North Carolina. Born on May 23, 1938, in Granville County, NC, Steve lived a life marked by kindness, dedication, and a profound love for those around him.
Steve's early years were shaped by his education at John Nichols in Oxford, where he laid the groundwork for a life of service and leadership. His commitment extended beyond civilian life as he proudly served in both the Army and the National Guard, demonstrating steadfast dedication to his country.
With a compassionate spirit and an unwavering work ethic, Steve started his career with McLean Trucking Company and served as the Supervisor of Cemetery Services for the City of Durham, until he retired at the age of 81. His day-to-day life was enriched by his many interests and hobbies: he coached and refereed football, basketball, and baseball, activities through which he touched many lives and formed lasting relationships. An ardent Tarheel fan, Steve also found joy in watching westerns and cherished time spent with his family vacationing at Myrtle Beach.
Steve’s generous heart was well-known among family and friends. He loved to cook, often preparing meals for a crowd so large that everyone could take a to-go bag home. His visits to shut-ins to share food and companionship reflected the very core of his kind and caring nature. A labor of love for Steve was mowing grass; no blade was ever out of order under his watchful eye.
Among Steve's proudest accomplishments was being a Mason, Shriner and a member of the Sudan Shriners Legion of Honors, a testament to his values and commitment to community. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Creedmoor and actively attended Enon Baptist Church.
He leaves behind a loving family who will continue to honor his legacy: his wife of 70 years, Pauline West Faucette; children, Jeffrey Carroll Faucette (Betsy), Sylvia Lynne Faucette and Ethan Hayes Faucette; daughter-in-law, Beth Faucette; and grandchildren, Daniel Austin (Jennifer), Justin Faucette (Carter), Joseph Faucette, Will Faucette (Angel), Kelly Bullock, Coltyn Faucette, Collin Faucette, and Conner Faucette. He also leaves behind five beloved great-grandchildren and an extended family and circle of friends too numerous to name. Steve was predeceased by his son, Stephen Dale Faucette and his parents, George Lee Faucette and Erna Beasley Faucette.
A visitation will be held on March 23, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Gentry-Newell & Vaughn Funeral Home, 503 College St, Oxford, NC 27565, followed by a memorial service from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the same location. Friends and family are welcomed and appreciated.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials may be made in Steve's honor to First Baptist Church in Creedmoor or to The Masonic Home for Children in Oxford, NC. The family wishes to thank everyone for their kindness, prayers and support.
Steve’s life was a shining example of selflessness and love, and his memory will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know him. His legacy is one of devoted family man, dedicated community servant, and a kind soul who found joy in life's simple pleasures.
The Faucette family is being cared for by Gentry-Newell & Vaughan of 503 College Street, Oxford, NC 27565.
