On November 5, 2025, Mr. Gilbert Austin Woodlief passed away surrounded by his family. Gilbert was born on May 2, 1933, in Wake County, NC. Gilbert was preceded in death by his loving soulmate, Christine Davis, and his son, Ronald Woodlief.
Gilbert was often thought of as the grumpy old man but was loved for his sense of humor and passion to prove everyone wrong. Gilbert was proud of his status as a veteran, where he served overseas in the Army, installing phone lines after World War 2. Upon completion of his tour of duty, Gilbert moved to Durham, NC, and proceeded to do what he loved best, being outside and doing whatever he felt like. Gilbert developed a strong relationship with his sons in his last years, as well as his daughter-in-laws. He is remembered for being a man of few words but leaving a lasting impression of complete love.
Gilbert is survived by his sons: Robert Woodlief (wife: Polly Woodlief), Dale Woodlief (wife: Kippy Woodlief), sisters: Thelma Howard and Faye Nolan, and a host of family and friends who will miss him.
