Grover Jefferson Yancey, age 84, of Oxford, NC, died unexpectedly at his home on Friday, October 22nd.
Born in Granville County on December 10, 1936, he was the son of the late Earlie Jefferson Yancey and Annie Leora Hobgood Yancey, a member of Grassy Creek Baptist Church and a graduate of Oak Hill High School.
Grover was a man of simplicity; he was the happiest when he was riding on his tractor and working on the farm that he grew up on from a small child. He loved seeing his grandchildren and most recently his 4 great-grandchildren. He never met a stranger and enjoyed talking to everyone that he met.
Surviving Grover is his wife of 60 years, Eleanor Barbara Wilmouth Yancey; his son, Jeff Yancey (Anna); his daughter, Kim Barnes (Eddie); his stepdaughter, Von C. Talley (Dean). Grover leaves many loving memories to his grandchildren, Leland Yancey (Alex), Madison Yancey (Jenna), Zach Barnes (Maggie), Joseph Barnes, Isaac Talley (Helen), Jacob Talley, Jenna Williams (Ken) and his great grandchildren, Bryce Yancey, Adley Grace Yancey, Savannah Yancey, Mac Williams and his dog, Beau. He leaves behind his brother, Wayne Yancey (Alice) and sister, Virginia Ann Veasey (Wayne). As well as the family previously mentioned, there are many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends who will miss Grover.
A graveside service will be held at Grassy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery on Monday, October 25, 2021, at 1:00 pm and will be officiated by Rev. Cameron Currin. The family will accept visitors at the home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his honor to Grassy Creek Baptist Church, General Fund.
The Yancey family is being proudly served by Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home, Oxford, NC.
