Harriett Daniel Young

Harriett Daniel Young, age 83, of Oxford, NC, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2026, after a battle with a rare liver condition. She was born in Oxford on December 20, 1942, to Thomas Morgan Daniel and Marguerite Averett Daniel. She was predeceased by her husband, Bobby Wade Young, a daughter, Deborah, and an infant son.

Harriett graduated from Stem High School in 1960. She then attended East Carolina College, where she met her future husband, Bob.

Harriett had a long career as a bookkeeper for the Granville and Durham County school systems and made many fond memories of coworkers and students throughout her career. She also worked on the family tobacco farm for most of her life, and she worked closely with her late husband, Bobby Wade Young, in his farm equipment and insurance businesses. She was also a lifelong member and leader at Enon Baptist Church.

She enjoyed world travel and spending time with her husband and family at their vacation home in North Myrtle Beach, S.C. Italy and Greece were among her favorite destinations. Her interests included art and literature, and she was an avid reader and book club member. She also enjoyed painting rural scenes, flowers, and pets.

Bob and Harriett shared a love of animals and welcomed a series of beagles, Labrador retrievers, and the occasional stray cat into their home.

Harriett is survived by her sons, Thomas Wade Young and his wife Kristen, and Ronald Day Young and his wife Karen. She is also survived by her extended family members, including brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, and cousins, too numerous to name. 

The family will receive guests during a celebration of life reception at the family home on Thursday, September 17, 2026, from 5:00 pm-7:00 pm. Funeral services will take place at Enon Baptist Church, 2298 Enon Road, Oxford, NC 27565 at 11:00 am on Friday, September 18, 2026, followed immediately by a memorial graveside service at the Enon Baptist Church cemetery. Rev. Steve Brown and Rev. James Shelley will officiate. Honorary pallbearers are Stephen Elliott, David Young, Billy Perry, and Ronnie Elliott.
