James was a man who found joy in many dimensions of life. He delighted in sharing countless moments with close friends at the shooting range and during shooting competitions, where camaraderie and spirit ignited his passion. But at the core of his heart was his granddaughter, Margot Smith—truly the radiant light of his life. James also held a deep affection for his faithful companion, his beloved dog Gina, whose loyal presence brought him immeasurable comfort and joy.
Creativity flowed through James in profound ways, not least in his artistry. A gifted painter, his works are cherished treasures that grace the walls of family and friends, each stroke a reflection of his soul and talent. His art will continue to speak of him, immortalizing moments of beauty and emotion for all who knew and loved him.
James is survived by those who loved him deeply: his daughter Carrie Smith and her husband Brandon Smith; his beloved granddaughter Margot; his former wife and lifelong companion Leslie Smith, whose bond with him endured through time; his devoted sister Beverly Smith Lane and her husband Kenny Lane; and his nephew Jared Lane with his wife Louise, as well as his niece Emily Edwards and her husband Wade, along with their children Ayden and Harley. Their love and memories will forever honor James’s remarkable life.
He was preceded in death by his cherished parents, James W. Smith and Isabel Stark Smith, whose legacy lives on through him.
