John Tucker Jones, a respected educator and dedicated social worker, passed away on October 11, 2025, at the age of 86, in Lee County, North Carolina. Born on October 10, 1939, in Craven County, NC, John exemplified a life deeply rooted in community service and a commitment to education.
John began his professional journey as a social worker, where he laid the foundation for a life dedicated to helping others. He later retired as the Dean of Students at Pamlico Tech, a role in which he nurtured countless students and contributed significantly to their personal and academic development. His educational journey culminated in earning a Masters degree, which further enhanced his ability to impact those around him.
Throughout his life, John cherished the memories of growing up on the Neuse River, where he developed a profound love for the outdoors. His early involvement with the Sea Scouts in New Bern fostered a strong appreciation for teamwork and leadership, traits that he carried into his professional life and community engagements. He cherished the belief that everything had a place and a use, a philosophy that guided him in both his personal and professional endeavors.
John was actively involved in various community organizations, marking his contributions as one of his proudest accomplishments. His dedication to service was reflected in the relationships he built and the lives he touched.
He is survived by his loving spouse of 59 years, Shirley Tippett Jones; his brother, Harold Holyoake Jones, Jr, his sister-in-law, Gertrude Jones; his sister-in-law, Betty Tippett Harris; and his nephew, Walter Jones and wife, Liz, along with their family and niece, Karen Jones and her family.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Harold H. Jones and Ida Tucker McLaurin Jones, whose legacy lived on through his values and commitment to the community.
