Karen Susie Kirkland

Karen Susanne "Susie" Kelly Kirkland, 48, passed away Sunday, May 31, 2009 at Nash General Hospital in Rocky Mount after a valiant year-long battle with breast cancer. Born in Durham, NC, Susie was the daughter of the late Banks C. Kelly, Jr. and Mary Strickland Kelly. Susie will be remembered as a loving wife, devoted mother and sweet sister. Surviving are her husband, Anthony Wayne Kirkland of Rocky Mount; her two sons, Sgt. Chaz Strickland Walker, U.S. Army, and wife, Nekiesha, of Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; Samuel Clifton Walker of Rocky Mount and Harold Banks Epling of Wendell; her brother: Banks Cliftoneelly, III, and his wife, Jean, of Cary; and granddaughter, Marley Zy Walker. Graveside services will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday, June 3, 2009, from Maplewood Cemetery, Section 19, with the Rev. Craig Gaither officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, June 2, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service, 1113 W. Main St. in Durham. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Susan G.
