Lucious W. Bullock Jr., 89, passed away peacefully at his home on March 9, 2026 surrounded by his loving family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lucious W. Bullock Sr. and Katherine Smith Bullock; his beloved wife, Shelby Bullock; his son, Michael Owen Bullock; and his brother, Mike Bullock.
He is survived by his daughter, Cindy Ellington (Joey); his granddaughter, Lauren Haskins (David); and his three grandsons, Will Bullock (Rachel), Nolan Ellington (Katie), and Lance Ellington. He is also survived by his brother, Bob Bullock (Joye), and two nephews, David Bullock and James Bullock.
Lucious was a proud great-grandfather to four great-grandchildren: Lilly, Avery, Lily, and Emma, who were truly the light of his life and brought him immense joy.
Lucious was a loyal member of Providence Baptist Church for many years, where he faithfully served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was also a member of the Gideons, the Stem Ruritan Club, and enjoyed his monthly visits to his stock club meetings in Durham. He retired from C.A. Dillon and was a farmer at heart who loved tending to his cows.
Lucious was a devoted Duke Blue Devils fan and spent many years volunteering at the Duke basketball concession stands, something he greatly enjoyed.
He loved watching his grandchildren play sports over the years and was always their biggest fan, rarely missing a game and cheering them on every chance he could. He was often the loudest voice in the crowd, never shy about sharing his opinion and proudly supporting them.
His dog, Buddy, was his constant companion and best friend, staying faithfully by his side until his final moments. Lucious loved taking Buddy for rides in his little green truck, something that brought him great happiness. Above all, he loved his family deeply and cherished the time spent together, especially the Sunday dinners at his home.
Lucious will be deeply missed by his family, numerous friends, and extended family members who were blessed to know and love him.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 11, from 6:00–8:00 p.m. at Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 12, at 11:00 a.m. at Providence Baptist Church in Oxford, North Carolina, with a graveside service to follow.
