Lyna Carol Wilson

December 29, 1950 — July 22, 2025

Oxford

Lyna Carol Wilson, a beloved public school teacher, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away unexpectedly on July 22, 2025, at the age of 74 in her hometown of Oxford, North Carolina. Born on December 29, 1950, Lyna brought warmth and joy into the lives of those who were lucky enough to know her.

As a dedicated educator, Lyna shaped young minds and inspired countless students throughout her career. She proudly graduated high school and went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Education, a testament to her lifelong commitment to learning. Her love for teaching was matched only by her genuine care for her students, making her a cherished figure in the community.

Lyna's loving spirit was evident in her relationships with her family and friends. She is survived by her devoted husband, Francis H. Wilson, Jr., who brought her immense joy and comfort. Together, they raised two sons—Joe Wilson and John Brent Wilson—who, along with their respective families, continued to carry on Lyna's legacy of love and kindness. Their bond was beautifully illustrated in her own words: "John Brent is 'my light' - he keeps me grounded and puts everything in perspective and has unconditional love for everyone." She welcomed her daughter-in-law, Shelby Wilson, with open arms and was deeply proud of her grandchildren, Presley and Holland, who brought her endless happiness.

A passionate woman with interests that spanned nature and the outdoors, Lyna was not only an experienced horse rider but also loved to cook, read, and tend to her garden. Her commitment to these hobbies reflected her nurturing personality and zest for life. Lyna was involved in various extracurricular activities, having sung in her church choir for many years as well as in her high school chorus, where she received the prestigious award for Most Talented. Her investment in her community shined through in her roles as both a camp counselor at Camp Don Lee and a Recreation Director at the Oxford Orphanage, enriching the lives of children around her.

Lyna leaves behind a rich tapestry of love and support from her extended family and friends, including her supportive brother-in-law, Jimmy Wilson, and her beloved sister, Julia Brent Marrow (Tommy). She will be remembered not only for her numerous accomplishments, including her membership in Delta Kappa Gamma, but also for her ever-present smile and unwavering faith. Her beloved feline companion, Madame Curie, was a constant source of joy and comfort during Lyna's earthly journey.

Lyna was predeceased by her parents, Joe B. Breedlove and Caroline Mayes Breedlove, her brother, Jack Breedlove, whom was killed while hitchhiking home from college; and her sister, Mary Nell Breedlove Hight and her husband, Benton Hight.
