Robert George Oxenreider

November 29, 1930 — January 31, 2026

Clover, Virginia

Robert “Bob” George Oxenreider, an accountant and cherished grandfather, passed gently from this world on January 31, 2026, in Oxford, North Carolina. Born on November 29, 1930, in Portage, Pennsylvania, he moved to DC to pursue banking studies in 1948 upon graduating high school and enjoyed being near his sister Patricia and her large family.

Throughout his professional life, Bob committed himself to the world of accounting, expertly navigating the intricacies of finance with a precision that won him the respect of peers and clients alike. Even after “retiring” and moving from northern Virginia to Clover, customers continued to mail their taxes to him until his late 80s. It finally took a major tax code change for him to actually retire, saying “I’m too old to learn it again”.

As the seasons turned, Bob found joy in the time spent after Tax Day each year. With a sense of adventure fueling his spirit, he would enthusiastically load up Buckwheat—his beloved companion and faithful soulmate, an Appaloosa mule—into the trailer for journeys across the wide expanse of the United States. They were familiar faces on many trail rides, riding in 28 states and traveling to 30. They were once featured in Mules & More, which was one of his crowning achievements.

He leaves behind his daughter, Leigh Anne O. Bowen, alongside her husband, David Bowen. Grandchildren Spencer and Mira Bowen will forever hold the memories of their grandfather’s gentle guidance and his stories of adventures past, just as great as the road he traveled. He had an especially close “partner in crime” relationship with grandson Spencer, teaching him to shoot, use the tractor, and drive before legal. Additionally, Clare Treichel, his goddaughter, will always remember Bob with affection. Bob and his neighbors Rhonda and Jimmy Inge immediately adopted each other as family when he moved to Clover Virginia, and will also miss him greatly.

Bob’s family tapestry shines brightly with the presence of his 13 surviving nieces and nephews, who, though each bear their own stories, are united through the threads woven by their beloved uncle.

Bob is reunited in the embrace of those he loved who have moved on before him, including his parents, Earl S. Oxenreider and Mary Pearl McNally Oxenreider, and his siblings, William, Thomas, and Patricia Treichel. Nephews David Oxenreider and James Treichel, and niece Rosemary Treichel.

As we bid farewell to Robert George Oxenreider, we embrace the memories that echo through our hearts—the laughter, the journeys, the love of a father, grandparent, and uncle. His spirit will forever reside in the stories we tell, the lessons we carry, and the love we share. In our hearts and minds, Bob will always be loaded up, trailer and all, embarking on the greatest adventure of all.

The Oxenreider family is honorably being cared for by Gentry - Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home of Oxford, NC.
