Robert Charles West, Sr., of Oxford, North Carolina, passed away on September 27, 2026, in Durham, North Carolina, at the age of 80. He was born on March 24, 1946, in Oxford, North Carolina.

Robert lived a life marked by faith, service, and a deep commitment to others. He graduated from Townsville High School, then attended Campbell University, where he received a Bachelor of Science. He later attended Central University and obtained a Master of Science in Education. He went on to devote 42 years to teaching school in Granville, Vance, and Durham counties, a calling through which he influenced generations of students and families. His work in education reflected the same steady character that guided every part of his life.

A longtime member of Tabbs Creek Baptist Church, Robert served faithfully in many roles over the years, including Deacon, Chairman of the Deacons, Sunday school teacher, and Director. His church was an important part of his life, and he gave generously of his time and leadership. He was known as a man who treated both young and old with dignity and respect, and whose wife and children were his utmost priorities.

Robert also found joy in simple and meaningful pursuits. He loved to read and loved the outdoors. He especially loved visiting nursing homes and shut-ins, offering companionship and care to others in quiet, lasting ways.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Bonnie Crowe West; his sons, Robert West, Jr and Jason West.; his daughter-in-law, Sarah West; and his grandchildren, Jayden Bradley West, Eliza Grace West, Alexander James West, and Annelisa “Annie” Claire West. He is also survived by his brothers, William “Bill” Henry West (Jean) and Edward Howell West (Carolyn) ; his sisters-in-law, Carolyn C. Fuller and Sarah C. Oslin; and his brother-in-law, Norman R. Boyd, and many nieces and nephews and friends too numerous to name. Each of them carries forward the memory of a man whose love for family was constant and whose presence brought strength, guidance, and care.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Henry West, and his mother, Florence Alma Howell West.

Visitation will be held on September 30, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall at Tabb's Creek Baptist Church, 5609 Tabbs Creek Church Road, Oxford, NC 27565. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Tabb's Creek Baptist Church, with burial afterward at 12:00 p.m., also at Tabb's Creek Baptist Church.
