Oxford

Roger Lewis Norman, 78, of Oxford, North Carolina, passed away unexpectedly on June 20, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of memories and a legacy of love.

Born on December 23, 1947, in Surry County, North Carolina, Roger was the son of the late Raymond Lewis Norman and Erma Lois Hicks Norman. He lived a life defined by hard work, devotion to family, faith, friendship, and an appreciation for life's simple joys.

While attending Elon University, Roger played football and earned the nickname "Kazi," a name many friends and family affectionately remembered throughout the years. It was also at Elon where he met the love of his life, Mary Lou Clark Norman. Their meeting began a remarkable partnership that spanned 53 years of marriage, built on love, laughter, unwavering support, and a deep commitment to one another. Whether spending time with family, enjoying gatherings with friends, or celebrating life's special moments, Roger and Mary Lou were often the first on the dance floor and the last to leave.

Roger built a successful career in the textile industry, serving in upper management for many years. He was respected for his strong work ethic, leadership, integrity, and commitment to doing things the right way. He believed in showing up, working hard, and taking pride in a job well done. These values guided him throughout his life and left a lasting impression on those who worked alongside him.

Outside of work, Roger found happiness in the outdoors. He loved both boat and shore fishing, enjoyed watching birds visit the feeders around his home, and appreciated the peace and beauty of nature. Whether casting a line into the water or sitting quietly observing wildlife, he found joy in life's quieter moments.

Roger will also be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor. He loved telling jokes, sharing stories, and keeping those around him laughing. He rarely passed up an opportunity to have fun, and his warmth, wit, and easygoing nature made people feel welcome wherever he went. Family gatherings, holidays, and celebrations were always brighter because Roger was there.

Above all, Roger was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Lou Clark Norman; his sons, Rod Norman (Teresa) of Lincolnton and Eric Norman (Doug Meardon) of Charlotte; his cherished grandchildren, Reagan, Max, and Ava; his brothers, Chris Norman of Durham and Wayne Norman (Michelle) of Hamptonville; and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Roger's life was marked by kindness, humility, generosity, and unwavering love for his family. He was the steady presence people relied upon, the voice of reason when needed, and someone who genuinely enjoyed being around others. Though his passing leaves an immeasurable void, the lessons he taught, the laughter he shared, and the love he gave will remain with those who knew him forever.

A Celebration of Life is tentatively planned for Saturday, July 18, 2026, at Mountain Creek Baptist Church, 2187 Mountain Creek Road, Oxford, NC 27565. Additional service details and times will be shared as they become available.

Roger's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him, and his legacy will continue through the family and friends whose lives he touched so deeply.
