Ronnie Lee Compton, affectionately known as "Ron," departed this world unexpectedly on July 18, 2025, in his hometown of Oxford, North Carolina. Born on June 9, 1966, Ron's life was a tapestry woven with passion, creativity, and a deep love for his family and interests that spanned both the cosmos and the everyday.
A dedicated husband to Lisa Miller Compton for 38 cherished years, Ron embodied the spirit of commitment and partnership. Together, they built a life filled with laughter, love, and shared adventures. As a proud father to Jessica Rose Compton and Travis Lee Compton, Ron imparted his wisdom and humor, fostering a family environment that thrived on ambition and nurture. He embraced his role as a grandfather to Henry with equal parts pride and joy, relishing every moment spent in the magical world of childhood.
Professionally, Ron shined as a Test Engineering Technician, who was responsible for developing the next generation of testing equipment for high voltage Silicone Carbide devices, navigating the intricacies of his career with quiet determination. Yet it was not just his professional life that defined him. Ron held a profound passion for the universe created by George Lucas, embodying the essence of a true Star Wars aficionado. His remarkable dedication to the art of cosplay brought the iconic characters of the galaxy to life through his meticulous and accurate replicas of Imperial stormtrooper armor, Sith Lords, clone troopers, bounty hunters, and all manner of villains. Conversations would spark delight within him, igniting a spirited discussion about Jedi, a subject that brought an animated side to his otherwise private demeanor.
In addition to his notable role in family life and work, Ron devoted time and energy to the wider Star Wars community. His proudest accomplishments included serving as the North Carolina and South Carolina event coordinator for the Rebel Legion's Blue Ridge Base and being an esteemed member of the 501st Legion, where he celebrated his passion with fellow fans and cosplayers.
Ron’s memory will forever be cherished by those who knew him, including his son-in-law, Damian Lopez, and daughter-in-law, Jessie Tilley-Compton, as well as a loving network of siblings: Kriste Causey (Julian), Kelly Jones (Scott), Jason Elliott, Randall Elliott, and Jane Jackson. Additionally, he is remembered with deep affection by Linda Compton, his sister-in-law, and Laura Miller, his mother-in-law.
His passing leaves an irreplaceable void among his family and friends, who have poignantly felt the echo of his absence. He was predeceased by his father, James Herbert Elliott, mother, Sue Compton Elliott, grandmother, Christine Beal Compton, grandfather, Burley James Compton, father-in-law, Howard Miller, and brother, BJ Compton, who all surely welcomed him into their embrace once more.
Services celebrating Ron's remarkable life will be held at West Oxford Baptist Church, where loved ones can gather for a Visitation from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life at 1:00 PM on July 28, 2025, officiated by Reverend Bruce Beck.
As we remember Ron, let us honor the life of a man whose passion illuminated every room he entered, whose creativity inspired many, and whose love knew no bounds. In every replica he crafted, every Star Wars discussion he delighted in, and every moment he spent with his cherished family, he left behind a legacy that will be profoundly missed but never forgotten.
