Sylvia Surratt Hendrick, a devoted servant of faith and family, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2026, in Granville County, NC. Born on May 4, 1938, in Davidson County, NC, Sylvia’s life was a testament to love, kindness, and tireless dedication.
From an early age, Sylvia embraced a life of service and care. A proud graduate of high school, she carried her straightforward and hardworking nature into everything she pursued. Sylvia’s loving spirit shone brightly throughout her 30 years of ministry work within prison outreach, where she committed herself to spreading the gospel to those longing for hope. Her heartfelt ministry was a beacon to many, bringing comfort and faith to individuals searching for light during difficult times.
Sylvia’s journey was equally marked by her commitment to her family and community. As a homemaker, she cultivated a warm and nurturing home—a haven of love and strength. Those who knew Sylvia also cherished her faithful service at Geneva Presbyterian Church, Munching Marvins, and Lucky's where her kindness and warmth left an indelible mark on all who crossed her path.
Her proudest accomplishment was her enduring marriage of 65 years to her beloved husband, George McClellan Hendrick, whose memory she held close following his passing. Sylvia’s life was enriched by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is lovingly remembered by her son, Wesley McClellan Hendrick and daughter-in-law Denise Hendrick; her grandchildren, Jessica Elaine Hendrick Winston (A), Daniel Hendrick, Lydia Hendrick, and Noah Hendrick; and great-grandchildren, Seth Alexander Winston and Logan Douglas Winston. Sylvia was also a cherished sister to Marion Powell Pritchett and Rebecca “Becky” Dean, and her brother Vestal “Mac” McCall Surratt.
Sylvia’s early family ties remain a foundational part of her story, marked by the memories of her parents, Vestal McCall Surratt and Esther Geneva Motsinger Surratt, including her late baby sister, Ruth and her son, John Vestal Hendrick (Janice) and grandsons, John "Vestal" Hendrick, Jr and Jeremiah Hendrick.
A visitation to honor Sylvia’s life will be held on June 1, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Geneva Presbyterian Church, located at 4620 Culbreth Road, Oxford, NC 27565. Following the visitation, a funeral service will take place at 3:00 PM, with burial to follow at 4:00 PM at the same location. Family, friends, and all who were touched by Sylvia’s generous heart are invited to celebrate a life beautifully and faithfully lived.
Sylvia Surratt Hendrick’s legacy is one of profound love, humility, and a heartfelt desire to uplift those around her. Through her steadfast faith and countless acts of kindness, she leaves behind a world forever bettered by her presence. Her memory will continue to inspire all who knew her, bearing witness to a life well-lived in service and grace.
